Although this machine is mostly used during surgery, it can also be used post-op as well. It is designed to capture blood that's typically lost during surgery and spins it inside of a centrifuge. The red blood cells are then isolated, washed, and given back to the patient.
Liver: 225ml bowl with 2 reservoirs/2 suctions.
Have a second liver setup ready just in case.
Also have a single reservoir 225ml setup ready in the event they have you wash bank blood.
Bring back livers/kidneys: If cell saver is required the minimum setup is a 225ml bowl with a single reservoir. Discuss with the PA before the case.
General: 125ml/225ml single reservoir setup depending on EBL. Typically a 125ml is used if blood loss is slow, but the case is long. If the case has already started or they contacted you due to heavy bleeding, use a 225ml setup.
Placement: At the head of the bed by anesthesia.

Everywhere Else: Typically at the head of the bed by anesthesia.

Location: As the staff. Typically you will be behind the anesthesia machine, but on occasion they'll have you next to anesthesia at the head of the bed.

Use the blue leukoreduction blood filter (1 per unit transfused).
Location: The cell saver goes at the foot of the bed by the dornoch suction. If the surgeon is Dr. Buchanan then the cell saver will go at the head of the bed if he's using a robot.
